Welcome Back to my Blog I've been receiving lots of emails my blog. I am surprised to find people who have never heard of the Steamboat Arabia are still following my blog because the story is so interesting. So, for them I am posting some 101 info they need to know (Bill to Organize Nebraska & Newspaper and next blog is the Announcement that Arabia Sank with Consignee list).
Bill to Organize Nebraska
The picture you see above is House of Representatives William A. Richardson, of Illinois. He introduced a revised Bill for Organizing Nebraska Territory (HR 353) on February 2, 1853. This led to the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854-
Per Wikipedia- The Kansas–Nebraska Act of 1854 created the territories of Kansas and Nebraska, opened new lands (Land Agencies opened- Consignees Cassidy & Test), repealed theMissouri Compromise of 1820, and allowed settlers in those territories to determine if they would allow slavery within their boundaries. Later in 1858 he becomes the Governor of Nebraska Territory and resigns when the Nebraska Legislature moved from Omaha to Florence, Nebraska. (Arabia's Consignees who establish Florence have high aspirations.) Collection of Matthew R Isenburg

Richardson's bill was modified, but pushed through after Stephen Douglas held the Senate Floor for over 5 hours. Douglas states,
"It is desirable that the country be open for settlement and that all emigrants, travelers, trades and settlers should be under the protection of the law." (This led to the Arabia's Contracts with establishing govenment posts ie. Ft Pierre to protect emigrants from Indians and provide relief)
